I have over 10 years unix and support experience as well as management, team leading and project management experience. I have extensive HPUX knowledge with Solaris experience as well.

I believe that my problem solving and support skills are excellent and have allowed me to support many applications. I have been in many situations over the years where I have not known the application but because of my skillset, I am able to gather information and progress problem resoln with third parties. I am not afraid of hassling people and/or learning.

I believe I have good communication skills (written and spoken) and have been customer facing in many of my job roles.

I've recently downloaded Red Hat Linux and have been familiarising myself with this Op Sys as there are many job roles out there which seem to want Linux experience. To me it seems very much like SCO Unix/Solaris and I am enjoying using and exploring it. With my broad base of Unix experience it is seems to be a fairly easy Op Sys to get to grips with.

I have recently redesigned my club web site. This has been written in PHP with a MySQL backend. The site can be seen at

As you can see by performing outside of work tasks such as looking at Red Hat Linux and writing/designing a web site, I have a continuing zest to learn and explore.

I am Chairman of a national wargaming society with 300-400 members and committee of 11 people. I organise, run and participate in tournaments up and down the country.

I have a family and enjoy my time with them.

CONTRACTING BASED AT ACCENTURE PLC

J.Sainsbury Ltd IT Department outsourced to Anderson Consulting who became Accenture PLC in 2001. Essentially performing the same job role as in J. Sainsbury Ltd.

Accenture is in a 7 year deal with JS. Their prime functions are to maintain the existing IT environment to allow the JS business to function properly and to replace the old legacy JS systems using modern technology in hardware, software and communications. For the Server Support Team, this means project work installing Sun kit running Solaris with storage on an EMC based fibre SAN. Veritas Clustering is used. The new Sun kit is being used as a home for the new software systems that are being installed to replace the legacy systems. The HPUX servers are slowly being decommissioned.

Working on Solaris on the following hardware - Sun 280s, 6800s, Netras, 10k and 15k.
1997 - 2000   J Sainsburys Ltd
CONTRACTING BASED AT J.SAINSBURY LIMITED

Part of JS Information Systems Services Division (ISSD) in the Mid Range Systems team. Involved in various projects including year 2000 projects such as replacing the matrix accounting system at JS with Oracle Financials, upgrade/installation of production and Head Office HP9000 Series 800 and 700 Servers. Exposure to HPUX running on various different types of hardware - A, B, D, G, H, J, K, L, N, R, T and V class servers. HP-UX operating system used includes HP-UX 8.00 to HP-UX 11.0. JS use HP9000 series 700 and 800 servers running HP-UX 8.00, HP-UX 9.04, HP-UX 9.05, HP-UX 10.01, HP-UX 10.20 and HP-UX 11.0. Involved in 2nd line technical telephone support and providing trainee staff with backup and support on technical support. Initial 3-month contract extended many times to present date. Advisory role for design of team intranet web site.

I further developed my skills in various areas and have been exposed to the following products whilst at JS - HP-UX on various types of HP hardware products, DNS/NFS/NIS/Mirror-UX/LVM/Ignite-UX, Service Guard, Oracle and Oracle Financials, Ingres, Ease Spool / Ease Task / CA Unicenter, XCOM, Taskbroker, ITO, Firewall-1, Mimesweeper, RSA Ace Server, MQ, Netscape Proxy Server, Apache Web Server, SMTP mail, Token Ring and Ethernet network technology, hardware installations on HP 9000 servers

Involved in installations, technical support and chargeable technical work on the following operating systems - AIX, HP-UX, SCO UNIX, SCO XENIX, ALTOS UNIX, ALTOS XENIX, DOS and NOVELL. Involved with the following software packages - TETRAPLAN, TETRA 2000, CHAMELEON, CHAMELEON 2000, LEGEND, CS3, WINDOWS V3.1, WINDOWS V3.11, WINDOWS 95, WINDOWS NT, JSB DESKTOP, INFORMIX, ORACLE, UNIPLEX, WORDPERFECT, EXCEL, LOTUS 1-2-3, VIEWPOINT, COGNOS, and many others. Also perform a Project Management role within the company on various projects. Also have HTML and Perl CGI skills.

Originally employed to be a technical/applications support specialist. Promoted to Software Support Manager to restructure and organise the Software Support Department involving recruitment of new staff, formulating a department plan, introducing and modifying administration systems within the company, educating the customer user base to reduce the number of support calls. Responsible for 4 staff and support of all products sold by IBIS including in-house bespoke systems latching onto the Multisoft Premier Package. Responsible to the Customer Services Manager and Directors of the company.
