Position. Unix Systems Administrator/Database Analyst.
Duties:
To provide secondary Pre-Sales support in specifying UNIX server solutions. Support tasks included: specification of solutions architectures (focusing on security, performance, scalability and resilience); capacity planning; software licensing & manpower effort estimates.
To provide technical design, planning and operational build expertise in the areas of the UNIX Servers and Operating Systems. To Carry out relevant installation, configuration and commissioning tasks within the timescales set down by the implementation planning team.
To perform UNIX Server troubleshooting, problem solving, tuning, and repairs as appropriate
To perform routine maintenance checks including Server and Operating Systems health checks, performance monitoring, backup status verification, capacity planning and general technical housekeeping duties.
To indicate and where appropriate resolve problems before they become service affecting alternatively effectively escalated any problems to the line manager
To document UNIX OS, operations guides, backup & recovery procedures and strategies as well as maintenance and security procedures & guidelines.
To evaluate and report on UNIX Operating Systems tools that may work alongside or replace existing systems management tools and wherever possible test out scenarios utilizing spare hardware in an isolated environment.
To work as part of an on-call rota for out-of-hours support of UNIX systems.
To manage projects on behalf of, and deputise for line-manager as required.
To respond in a timely and professional way to Help Desk calls, communicating with the Customer via the Help Desk. Constant awareness of the status of Customer calls and associated escalation points.
To perform additional tasks as and when required by the company, as directed by line management

Duties included :
Responsible for the development of an in house clearing system written using Powerbuilder, this system was designed to dial-up remote sites, upload and process the data to allow management/executive reporting.
Other responsibilities included the installation and maintenance of several data processing systems (SCO Unix/Oracle) to a number of customers in the south of England.
Also responsible for management of the office system network.

Organised several members of staff to enter information into a patient database system, analyse the results and report on the payment due to the GP involved. Organise and deliver staff training on PC based computer software. Provided a hot-line telephone support service and design sales literature using DTP software.
Reason for leaving : Company ceased trading which led to my redundancy.

Duties Include :
Produced a sales packages for customers which included CAD drawings of fitted furniture as it would look when fitted, estimation of cost and relevant finance details, I also managed two other members of the drawing team.
Reason for leaving : Office closure led to redundancy.
