IT Technical Support
Education - I am a graduate (2:1) of Information management from Queens University Belfast.
In addition, I will be a graduate of the Rapid Advancement Programme (RAP) in August 2003. This means that I currently hold two MCP exams in W2k prof/server and in the near future I am going to sit the networking exam. The knowledge that I have gained from sitting these exams has helped me in my 17-week placement in the Bank of Ireland.
Work experience - As mentioned above, I am currently in a 17-week placement with the Bank of Ireland. Here I support NT and W2k operating systems, most Microsoft products and BOI own bespoke software. I deal with a range of issues, such as installation & upgrading s/w, network configuration, troubleshooting problems, ghosting pc, building pc, printer and fax problems, remote admin - basically any problems that arise that are prohibiting users to complete their jobs.
Communication skills are vital in this role, as users need to be fully aware of the situation and to what is going to happen. Also when closing a call, documentation needs to be precise and accurate.
Prior to this position, I have had the position of office manager within DFS furniture, call centre personnel for mortgage applications and mortgage underwriter for Halifax. Within these roles, I have found that attention to detail, communication and being a team member is of most importance.
Overall, I have found that the most important aspect of achieving any goals is that of organisation, preparation and attention to detail. I have found that I pose many organisational skills and tend to take a leadership role within any team that I have participated with. I find that I need to prepare information in advance to achieve maximum affect but yet if faced with the unexpected I would be able to provide quality information. Finally, attention to detail is most important - this can lead to quality service to both colleagues and customers and will also allow the organisation to run smoothly.
