PC/Desktop Support

I will be relocating to Birmingham on the 28th April and I am looking for a suitable challenging position. As I have been working as part of an operations team in the I.T department I have been responsible for looking after the computer room and using various
systems such as VAX/VMS, UNIX which also includes performing backups on NT servers.
As a team member I have been able to solve problems as well as coordinate tasks between the team. As an individual I have been sent to various other sites to deal with desktop related issues, these have ranged from setting up/installing desktop pc's and printers to networking. On site I have answered and dealt with helpdesk calls over the tele and have been able
to solve the problems in person.
I am a bright and enthusiastic person. I have good interpersonal skills and I am able to communicate with people at all levels. I have a proactive attitude and aptitude and I am able to work under pressure. With the work that I have already undertaken I have been organised and have had the ability to prioritise work to create an effective working environment.

Previous jobs

1997 - 2004   Singer & Friedlander Ltd
Having started at the company as a Trainee Operator, I was promoted to Senior Operator in 2000. My role in the IT department is to manage the day to day running of the computer room which includes:

? Co-ordinating operators shifts
? Equipment maintenance, ranging from NT servers to VAX machines
? Ordering consumables such as backup media and toners
? Keeping the morale of the team high and maintaining a positive working environment

The job is split up into three shift patterns, two of the shifts are devoted to VAX Operation and one shift is devoted to PC support. This lets me keep my skills tuned and up to industry standards. My main responsibilities lie with the VAX machines that are listed below.

VAX Duties
? Running batches
? System shutdowns, Reboots, Maintenance
? Performing backups
? Distributing reports
? Performing user tasks e.g. Reprinting customer output

NT Duties
? Answering helpdesk calls and solve client problems
? Installing hardware and software from NT4
? Upgrading/replacing internal components
? Dealing with network problems
? Patching (computers, printers and telecomms)
? Installing Windows 98, NT, 2000 and XP operating systems, as well as Office 97, 2000 and XP

PC support runs from installing software (Windows NT4, 2000 and XP to office applications) to more complex tasks such as replacing and testing new hardware. This experience has enabled me to be sent out to other sites where support help is required. As part of the PC support role I answer helpdesk calls and fix problems over the phone, using my effective communication and problem solving skills.
