Sage Enterprise Solutions Plc,
My role at Sage Enterprise Solutions was Deputy Product Director. Sage Enterprise Solutions, a subsidiary of the Sage Group plc, produced ERP systems for the mid-range UNIX and Windows markets.
My primary responsibility was to manage a development team of 50 staff, who were responsible for developing new functionality for future product releases and maintaining existing products. I also set up and managed a small team in South Africa to produce customer specific projects.
My secondary responsibility was to support and assist in forming development strategy. This strategy was designed to support other parts of the business such as Business Development and Marketing.
Four application development teams reported to me. Through managing these teams I developed excellent team building and leading expertise. The teams covered:
API development using Java & COM based technologies
Legal & fiscal applications to meet the requirements of specific territories
3rd party integration to allow Sage Enterprise Solutions products to be used alongside other specialised packages such as route planning & shop floor scheduling
Maintenance of existing released products supporting in excess of 7000 customers
My role involved being responsible for the full software development process, including technical design, change control, beta testing and support. Through this I became experienced in developing and deploying enterprise solutions world-wide, having managed projects in the USA, Brazil, South Africa and Europe.
The main responsibilities that I had were:
Budgetary responsibility for Applications Development of £4 million
Managing teams to deliver projects on time and within agreed budgets
Co-ordination of development projects to meet product release schedules
Planning & input to a Product Road Map
Reviewing requirements to ensure that these are of value to the core product
Providing technical resource to other groups within Sage Enterprise Solutions
Managing measurement and control processes to ensure the department was continuously achieving improvements, in line with ISO 9000.
